Reading and comprehension can be a struggle for students with various disabilities. Using color-coding strategies to help dissect the text and break it down will allow my students to see the bigger picture and understand the overall message with a clearer lens! Currently, my students are bringing in limited supplies and borrowing from my limited class highlighters. The highlighters I have selected come ready to go in a package that students can keep stored at their desk and use to help analyze complex text. They will use these highlighters to color code the text. Pink highlights will indicate the main idea of the passage. Orange will indicate a surprising fact. Yellow will indicate something confusing. Green will indicate a personal connection to the story/article. Blue will indicate a connection to something discussed in class. And lastly purple will indicate new and important vocabulary. I have seen how great color coding strategies can work and I look forward to breaking down complex information into easy to understand and follow methods for my students!
