The students in my class are very excited to read, but can sometimes be discouraged by the complexity Social Studies readings can bring to the classroom. Most of my students are at some level of English Language Learning and could use any level of support, but especially engaging reading materials! As a Social Studies teacher in a small charter school, it can be difficult to receive funding for certain materials. Scholastic News would be a wonderful gift to my students, as it provides opportunities for my students to learn about important current events with exciting, easier to read articles and a very important opportunity to have visuals accompany these amazing stories. It's a unique opportunity for them to have valuable material to read after they complete their bellwork and other assignments and I know it would be helpful for the enhancement of my curriculum as well.
