Students often complain that history is boring. That’s because the amazing stories of the past so often get lost. With these stories, the everyday decision-making, the unbelievable journeys, and the risks people took to change the world will come to life. We will engage in literature circles, active discussion and consistent read-alouds of these wonderful books. We will read these together as a class and hold literature circles in which each child will have an important role, will prepare documents for their role, and discuss the book from the perspective of that role in their small group. These individual accounts will have students riveted, and will change the way they think about history forever.
