With this project, my students will become biomedical engineers and explore how to stop outbreaks of contagious diseases. Students will explore how diseases spread and how to prevent an outbreak from spreading to the general public. With this project, my students will use the Engineering Design Process to experiment with the effects of different variables on outcomes and develop an antiviral to stop a newly discovered disease. Engineers are problem-oriented, and students will use the design process to identify a problem, collect information on the problem, brainstorm and analyze ideas, develop possible solutions, gather feedback, and improve upon their ideas - all in the context of a viral outbreak.
