Kindergarteners spend a lot of time on the floor. We have stories and Morning Meetings and many lessons, sitting on the floor. Students need to have defined spaces. They like knowing that the blue square is where they sit everyday. I also like students being able to have a proper rug to sit on. Right now I just have the kids sit on the floor, their arms and legs are bothering their friends, they fight over where to sit. Having a nice rug would make a big difference in classroom structure and routines. Students will be more comfortable and have ownership in their seat on the floor if they have their own space. They will also be able to focus better on lessons and the classroom will be more conducive to learning.
