To begin the day, the students and I meet at an area on the floor in the front of the room. Our time begins with an informal, voluntary conversation celebrating excitement and providing sympathy and encouragement over a failure or stressor. After we have discussed the social-emotional piece of our realities, we begin with our morning meeting. Our morning meeting includes educational fun songs with movement along with the information of the day. This includes the schedule- what they can expect during the school day, the date, the number of days of school, counting, assessing the weather, and working with money. Currently, my classroom does not have a rug to define this gathering space, and my school does not have the funds to purchase one.
