Our students are learning to regulate their sensory systems as they need to be able to function and focus in the classroom setting. We are creating a sensory area to assist in this learning and calming. All of our students have unique sensory needs that require individual attention. By providing one area with different sensory opportunities such as visual, tactile, auditory, vestibular, etc, our students can receive the input they require to assist in their self-regulation. When our students learn how to regulate their own sensory systems, they will increase their functional success in the classroom. This is a unique opportunity for our students as we are a Title I school and the classroom is one of the only places where they will have the opportunity to learn these self-regulation skills.
