Reading has become a chore to children rather than an enjoyable pass time. Being a fourth grade reading teacher I have made it my priority to make children LOVE reading again while maintaining rigorous content! We are trying to accomplish this through novel studies throughout the year. Around Christmas time we are going to read "Mr. Popper's Penguins," because it follows a winter theme to engage students in the reading. Our class sizes range from 27-32. This makes it nearly impossible to have a book for every child. Having a personal class set would mean a book in every student's hand and learning happening for every student.
