One of the biggest challenges of serving in a school within an urban setting is teacher retention. This has a crippling effect on our students ability to learn. We have the opportunity to travel as a staff to Austin, Texas to a National Conference that will give us a plethora of teaching resources, as our districts professional development is very limited in scope. To become a stronger teacher, I need to be reflective in my practice and determine areas of personal growth. As I look through this conference's break-out sessions, I've determined several areas that would benefit my own learning. Examples of these resources being offered are breakout sessions that include; #STAND UP: The Transformative Power of the Elective, Approaching Citizenship: Voices of African American Women during Jim Crow, 3-D Engagment in the Civil War, and 15 Ways to Empower Students with News Literacy.
