To get students back into learning and enjoying being here at school, I decided to do a cool activity with t-shirts and poetry. Poetry is often met with an "Aww man poetry" in my classroom so I thought why not make it fun. Students will create a shape poem about an item that is important to them. The poem will be in that shape and they will create a t-shirt with their poem on it. This lesson will allow students to gain knowledge on what poetry is as well as bring their art form to light. The following lesson is an opportunity for students not only to recognize that they can write poetry but as well as they what they have to say has value and relevance. My students need a heat press, Cricut machine, vinyl, and teflon sheets to create shirts during their figurative language and poetry lesson. Help me get my students excited to be poets.
