Everyday in my classroom, students are given an afternoon snack after we come inside from recess. Studies show that hungry children do not focus and retain information. I provide snacks for the students who do not have snacks sent from home. Many of my students are on free or reduced lunches and do not have snacks to bring from home. Some of my students do not have food at home on the weekends and we send food with them. I always allow these students to take something from our snack cabinet with them. Kids have enough to worry about without having to worry about their food.
