We most recently switched from computer labs to chrome carts in each room. I now have an empty room next door to mine that is no longer a computer lab. Empty rooms tend to quickly become junk rooms are our school and I would like to salvage it and convert it into a market space for the entire school! We have about 700 students in a PreK-6th grade setting. A maker space can provide extension, hands on and great opportunities for engaging remediation. We are newly accountable for coding and our school has no resources for this. It will also provide an engaging environment to work in small grid or one on one to help assist students who are behind in their academics or it can host extrication students while I work next door in my classroom with intervention students. We have already started a VEX IQ club after school and look forward to many more ways to bring the community into the space. We’re hosting a “name the maker space” challenge during our fundraiser next month. My whole staff is thrilled with the possibilities!
