Acquiring hard copies of class sets is tough. With a budget of $100/teacher, teachers have to rely on other means to support enriched literature. I read aloud to my students every year and this is one of their favorite parts of the day. They often race to the library to get the only copy (if there is one), so that they can follow along. With a class set, not only can students follow along, the struggling reader can hear me read and learn through my modeling. The enriched discussions that occur as a result are the favorite part of the day for me. I choose books that are realistic fiction. The book I chose is about a girl with no arms and her struggles. Based on my 20 years of teaching, I know that this will be a fifth grade favorite. My students desire to become lifelong learners will be enhanced with your help of a book in their hand!
