Studies have shown that allowing students choice increases their engagement in class. Having flexible seating in the class also gives students the opportunity to easily move around and work with different groups. Being able to work with multiple children is extremely important to me. I believe that this will help us grow as a classroom community. It teaches them to effectively communicate, collaborate and to be open-minded, skills that will help them be successful in the future. Over the past two years, I have noticed that my students have become more engaged and stay focused when they are able to choose their spaces during independent work. The items that I have chosen range from floor cushions and stability balls for students that choose to work on the low tables or who prefer to work independently to wobble stools and a standing desk, for those that need to get their wiggles out. I am hoping to add more choice seating to what I currently have in my classroom. My students and I all thank you!
