At Hays, students will experience music through a variety of activities involving movement, singing, and the playing of instruments. With these instruments, students will get a hands-on experience practicing rhythms, solfege, melodies, harmonies, and other musical concepts! It is important that every student can actively participate in music class with an instrument. With full classroom sets of instruments such as boomwhackers, handbells, recorders, and drums, every student will be able to participate at the same time, and students will have a variety of instruments to choose from when practicing songs! Student engagement will be higher in class due to the fact that less students will have to wait to take turns playing an instrument. Students will be able to collaboratively play music all together while also understanding their individual role and part in the music. Students will learn to use these instruments in Kindergarten through 5th grade, growing their understanding and ability at each grade level! With more instruments comes more opportunities for clubs and school/community performances. Students at Hays will use these instruments to enrich their concerts and performances, adding another musical element to the traditional vocal performance. Help me put these instruments in the hands of hard-working, honorable students!
