This listening center is crucial to my Kindergarten classroom. Research has shown that reading is important for young children. Reading books aloud helps students imagination, develops language skills, and prepares them to become independent readers. With this listening center, we would allow my students to take charge of their education. They would be able to be active readers and develop book handling skills that are important for emergent readers. These skills include left to right directionality, front and back book handling skills, and reading top-down. With this listening center, I want students to develop a love for reading that continues for years to come.
