My students have limited experiences with non-fictional texts. At home students are provided with fictional books that are not leveled. With these supplies , students will have multiple opportunities to access non-fictional texts through the leveled readers or class set of book study materials. Students will read texts and connect themes such as racism, segregation, freedom of choice, education and equality. Furthermore the supplies will allow students the freedom to formulate these connections and document their findings/ learning in their personal journal entries and through their artistic expressions. These texts and supplies will assist in expanding student outlooks and perceptions.
