These materials will facilitate a hands-on, inquiry-based science project, where my fifth-grade students learn about, grow, and care for baby chicks. Students will not only be learning about and practicing science standards, but they will also be learning about responsibility, accountability and the fragility of life. Students will engage with the life cycle of the chicken and use microscopes and technology to look at their growth on a cellular level. Students will be responsible for the incubation of the animals as well as for their care once they have hatched. Students will use the scientific method and scientific notebook throughout this immersive experience to grow in their writing and argumentative skills.
