Using a variety of sensory modalities helps students to learn and stay engaged during the learning process. I chose water toys that students could use during a sensory center to teach receptive/expressive vocabulary, requesting for specific toys, and to make comments about the actions the toys are doing i.e., "eat fish", "all wet", etc. When toys are highly motivating, everyone wants them, so this would encourage students to use their form of communication (hand signs, picture exchange, communication devices, etc) to take turns and socially interact with their peers. The products I have chosen are of common animals, primary color based and perform some form of action in the water such as movement or squirting water out. These products also encourage language and social interaction between peers and adults. In conclusion, I am a firm believer that learning should be fun and innovative and want my students to enjoy their learning so that they become effective communicators in society.
