The students will be able to understand the complicated issues they will begin to face as they prepare to enter the world. Ta-Nehasi Coates makes these real world struggles personal and engaging. What started as a letter to his son, now has grown into a memoir and meditation for all teenagers and adults to understand what others go through. We will use the example of the book Between the World and Me, to help them create personal narratives about their daily lives. Then, we can share these narratives with other students, so they know that their experience is no longer a hidden one.
