I teach in a a small town in Mississippi. Our school is Title I and the majority of our school's purchases go toward what the school considers "necessities". While flexible seating may not be considered by others as a necessity, I like to think differently. Next year, I will be teaching 5th grade. Many of my 5th graders have a SPED ruling for ADHD. Having flexible seating allows students to choose a seat that will best channel their hyper activity. Allowing students to choose their seat and involves movement helps keep students from disrupting the learning environment of others. All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
