This year I want to create a makerspace for my students. This space will be used in a variety of ways to help students academically, socially, and artistically. Creating something new from what you've studied is the highest form of learning according to Bloom's Taxonomy. This makerspace will allow my students to connect English language arts to the parts of life that most interest them. Makerspaces provide a hands-on, creative way to encourage students to design, problem-solve, experiment, build, and create. Students will use the supplies provided in the makerspace cubbies to create things related to what we are learning about in class, their independent novels, or group projects. The key to the success of a makerspace is organization. I have requested a cubbie with ten storage areas to help contain all of the supplies students will use to bring their ideas to life. I would also like to have various LEGO sets in the makerspace because these can be used to create for years to come. Many resources will be used and need replacement, so it is essential to have some materials that can be utilized more than once.
