These books will allow us to do a novel study over The Sign Of The Beaver. This will also link back to the students studying of Native American culture in social studies. The students will read through the novel and compare their lives in the modern-day to the life of the main character, Matt. They will learn about Native American culture and how it differed from the culture of the pioneers that lived during this time. My hope is that the students can t relate to the Character of Matt and understand how he and Native Americans he lives near lived and how that differs from how we live today.
