The world is crawling with things we can't see, that is, until we use a microscope! Our school would like to carry our explorations to the next level and explore what we have never been able to before. We are dreaming small! This fits well into our Environmental Education curriculum as well as the S.T.E.M. standards for our state. We currently have two small microscopes without LCD screen viewers and the kids love them, however it is a mad scramble for each of them to get a turn at looking through the eyepiece, having one with a screen and projecting capabilities would eliminate this problem. It would make large group discussions about the microorganisms possible.
A donation to this project will help all students become more curious about science and increase their scientific literacy. Specifically, an exciting prospect is that it would enhance the water testing projects we do with our 5th and 6th grade students. They would be able to have a better quality instrument to examine their findings in the nearby Mississippi River as well as other local lakes and streams.
