This school year will look different than any other year. Students will be masked, distancing from classmates, and limited in their movement throughout the school. These changes are guaranteed to bring anxiety to my 8/9 year old students that are not used to school looking like this. Research has shown a growing connection between time spent outdoors and reduced levels of anxiety and stress. These yoga mats will be used for outdoor instruction. Each student will have their own mat to sit on, keeping them clean and dry as we take our learning outdoors. These outside breaks will give students an opportunity to remove their masks and get fresh air, as I continue teaching. The mats will allow me to take read aloud time, class discussions and independent work outdoors, and give kids a break from the desks they will otherwise be sitting in the rest of the day.
