Last year, my students were surrounded by books filled with characters of color generously provided by so many of my friends and family members. However, I struggled to find ways to teach them to stick with a book and finish it. This year, I want to begin the school year by reading a shared, high interest book together and then allowing all students to finish it on their own, so they can experience finishing a great book independently. But do to this, we need a class set of one great book- The Buried Bones Mystery! While reading it, we will travel to the Museum of Natural History to see the new dinosaur exhibit and make strong connections between the book and our science unit.
