The day of a first grader's learning starts during whole group morning meetings in the classroom to "determine" the weather forecast with a weather chart, update the calendar, and count how many days spent in school so far. Since first grade is the bridge from kindergarten to second grade. They are beginning to use decks, but still need to work on the floor for story time, morning meetings, literacy stations, and math centers, etc. I would like to create a warm and exciting environment to draw students' interest. Having the environment and materials to help motivate students to learn is my goal. Creating a space for students to be comfortable while he/she reads text during literacy stations with a partner, or read a good book laying on a comfy pillow on the carpet sets the tone for learning. This is especially needed for students who are often left with lack. By getting a carpet for my classroom, students will certainly gain a since of pride in the classroom and become motivated to learn with peers.
