Diversity, literacy, and project based learning come together to meet the needs of my 5th grade gifted students. Our class is in an urban district with students from many backgrounds and I want our class library to reflect that. It is currently very outdated and I want them to see themselves in the books they are reading! They will read the books in small groups and meet weekly for book talks. After finishing the books, they will complete a project focusing on one or more literary elements. Our reading workshop involves a lot of projects and I want to update the supplies I provide for my students. They need a lot of materials to show their learning through creative, critical thinking projects!
