Nothing helps capture the focus of the class better than a simple podium at the front of the room that creates a centerpiece for students to be drawn to and instruction to take place from. As college-bound 9th and 10th graders, students need to be familiar with traditional lecture-type format. Though the class is very interactive, an effective classroom functions most smoothly with the teacher having a center point. The podium provides this for the students. The teacher podium will complete the layout of the room, that currently includes personal laptops, a designated reading corner, a reteach center for effective reteaching, and a direct-instruction area.
