I am working on bringing flexible seating into my classroom. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent student work time I allow students to choose the seating that works best for them. Currently in our classroom the seating options include tall desks so students can stand, short desks so they can sit on the floor, or on a pillow and clip boards so they can lay down on the carpet. There is such a difference in the way the students work alone and with their peers when they are able to sit the way they want. I have noticed that the students almost always make a choice that works best for them, they are more engaged and they are getting more of their work completed. The products that I am choosing will help my students by giving them more options so they are able to make better learning choices. Wobble stools are wonderful because they adjust and students can use them at the tall or shorter desks. Bouncy bands are great because the student can still wiggle their feet without bothering other students around them. Light covers will help my students with light sensitivity focus without being bothered by the bright lights. I have seen the different ways these seating choices have already benefited my students and I am hoping with some more options it will benefit them even more.
