I am passionate about children's literature and growing readers who learn to love to 'get lost in a good book'. As I try to expand my classroom library, my goal is to be intentional about the quality of literature I am providing so that my first grade readers will be exposed to the differences that exist among us in the world.
I have chosen books specifically that will help children explore and understand different family structures, a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as instill a mentality of inclusion, kindness and a love for self and others.
Whether I read on the carpet to the class, they partner read with a friend, or they snuggle up in their reading spot to read independently, these books will be well loved! My students have already shown so much compassion and empathy for others and these books will greatly enrich their awareness of differences and capacity to be inclusive and kind.
Thank you for your consideration to help spread kindness and acceptance in my classroom!
