First grade is where children's natural curiosity about the world around them is inspired by books and the ability to read. A classroom library is essential for children who may not have regular access to books at home. The students will use the books in the classroom library for independent reading time while I work with reading groups for individual reading instruction. Books enhance learning about science, math, character development and social studies. Kids love reading and re-reading books used during read aloud and to enhance the curriculum. Having a stocked classroom library is a staple in any classroom, especially in 1st grade where reading development is fostered and nurtured.
