The books in my cart have characters with various backgrounds and lifestyles that shine a light on people different from my students. Reading these stories will create empathy and allow them to understand the world around them. With a new understanding of their world, my students can 'stay woke', see the injustices around them, and change the world. Seeing the world from someone else's point of view can help them understand the problems others face on a daily basis, and then have the courage to act on the behalf of someone else. Reading these stories is the best way for us to see the issues and make the necessary changes.
