My project is to receive a variety of items to help my students engage in learning in an untraditional way. A learning environment with more hands on learning instead of the traditional standing in front of the classroom teaching. In 1st grade it is important for the students to learn to read and build their vocabulary. The bean bags will help create a comfortable reading environment for my students to enjoy reading while also building their reading fluency and vocabulary. Since we are in the year of technology, the headphones will help my students with learning through computer programs like Reading A-Z, Flocabulary, and Spelling City without any outside distractions. The paint and paintbrushes will help the students to enhance their creative side through creating pictures. This will be used more in Social Studies and Science when discussing animals and their habitats or World Earth Day. The whiteboards will be used as a whole group alternative to the traditional raising of the hand. The writing side of the whiteboard is to improve writing skills. It will be used in reading to show spelling of sight words or examples of nouns, adjectives, or verbs. Showing comprehension of main idea, setting, characters, plot, etc. In math, the whiteboards will show answers to different math problems like addition, subtraction, greatest than and less than, and number order. The jungle counters will be a hands on manipulative to help me in math talking about sorting and creating bar graphs when sorting. They will also help in the students learning how to collect information (data) in creating their graphs. The jumbo dice, buzzers, and “I have who has” sight words game will be used in learning games to get the students up and moving out of their seats for more engaging learning.
