These products will help to create a welcoming and colorful classroom for my students.
As a first year teacher, and working in an urban school with students who struggle financially, I want to do my best to create a supportive and safe environment for my students.
I have already started decorating and setting up my classroom and created a lot of my charts and posters myself. I still have some bare walls, that is why I will use the colorful decorations to hang up and display meaningful messages. I would like my students to have colorful paper for classroom projects and for their reading journals. I also would use the jumbo pencils as an accommodation for students who may struggle with using standard sized pencils. I will use the poster paper to create anchor charts and to use when practicing writing, sentence structure and the formation of letters.
One of the bigger materials in my cart are the emoji cushions. I want to offer these in the classroom reading corner for students to sit on while reading. I chose the emoji cushions because it goes along with my emoji check-in and I would like my students to understand their feelings and how we can learn a variety of coping skills and calming down techniques to use when we get upset or mad. I want my classroom to be welcoming and if they can relate to an emoji since it is familiar to them it helps them feel a sense of belonging.
