These books will help my scholars develop a love and passion for reading that I did not have until later in life. When scholars can see themselves in a character of a book, they develop a near automatic connection to that text. I was always told if you cant be a mirror--as in if you don't personally identify similarly to your scholars, be a door or a window. These texts will help me do just that. I may not look like all of my scholars, but I will do everything I can so they can see themselves and their identities reflected in the texts they read.
