In order to effectively teach CPR to the 8th graders, the mannequins and AED (automatic external defibrillator) units are needed to demonstrate the proper training techniques used. Having the set of 2 adult and 2 infant mannequins will allow me to explain the sequence to go through if they find someone that is unresponsive. One set I can demonstrate, show hand placement and note areas that are most effective to exert pressure and the student can attempt return demonstration on the second set. CPR can only be taught with "hands on" teaching in order to get the knowledge the students will need to successfully resuscitate someone that is in cardiac arrest. CPR is a skill they can take with them the rest of their lives! Being equipped with this knowledge is the best send-off I could ever give the 8th graders as they continue their education in high school.
