It is crucial for all students to have the tools they need to be thriving learners. The differentiated seating and weighted blanket will provide the necessary supports for students to be able to move their bodies safely and appropriately, self regulate, and focus on instruction. They will be helpful when we work in small groups because not all students work well at a desk or table. The weighted blanket will be especially useful in helping students with anxiety ground themselves in their bodies and be fully ready to learn. Mindfulness cards and books will help me teach kids valuable social-emotional skills to help them self calm, practice breathing strategies, and be in touch with their emotions as well as the emotions of those around them. These materials will support different learning styles, build confidence, and increase student engagement in learning. As a first-year teacher, I am working to build an inclusive classroom environment that supports the diverse learning needs of all students and specifically supports students who have experienced past trauma. As we know, the more adverse childhood experiences children have, the more at risk they are for developing chronic health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity later in life. The good news is that investment in trauma-sensitive classrooms can counteract these troubling long-term health outcomes are later on in life. Your donation will be a long-term investment in my classroom and will support the creation of an environment that will support all learners in and feeling safe, welcomed, and engaged in learning. And most importantly, your donation will serve as a long-term investment in the overall health of my students, now and into the future.
