My students will be able to utilize these "Brain Bins" (aka STEM boxes) in a multitude of ways including Makerspace exploration, positive behavior incentives, early finisher options and, most often, as part of their morning routine as the enter our classroom. Student collaboration and hands-on learning with engaging materials are the driving forces behind this project. These bins will be filled with items such as Play-Doh, Building Blocks, Snowflakes, Legos, Knex, connecting cubes, magnetic Picasso Tiles, craft sticks and marble runs to engage students in open ended, developmentally appropriate and creative learning tasks. Students will be pushed to think outside of the box, generate new ideas and problem solve to design, create and explore both individually and in partners/small groups. All of the requested materials will be organized in existing classroom bins and shelving for easy student access and storage. With your support, my first graders will be able to begin their school days with excitement and engagement through the use of our "Brain Bins!"
