This is a hurricane Harvey impacted area and needs resources to help students be successful. I am returning to the classroom after retiring in 2012 to teach high school mathematics. I teach discovery lessons in Geometry which involves supplies on a daily basis. The first unit in Geometry is about points, lines, and planes. They have to know how to represent each of these undefined terms in geometry. I begin the year with students making a foldable for new words and concepts in the geometry curriculum daily. The students are able to use these foldables on their tests and quizzes. Since we make so many foldables during the year, having them be different colors helps me to tell them which foldable to use. They use markers and colored pencils to highlight the special areas of each geometric figure. These foldables help the students to revisit what the terms mean on a daily basis. The objective is for them to remember without using the foldables eventually. This is a small rural south Texas school district. While funds are available they are limited. This would help my students to better their learning experience. The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go.
