In the personalized learning campus, flexible seating helps students take charge of their learning. The students have choice of where to sit when working independently. Research has shown that physical movement and comfortable choice seating has increased academic improvement. Allowing the students to use the kind of seats I have selected will motivate them in their learning experience while in my classroom. I have seen many of my colleagues use flexible seating which has helped with motivation and increasing instructional time. The research from the University of Salford says, "Optimizing all of these physical characteristics of primary classrooms improved academic performance in reading, writing, and mathematics by 16 percent." The products I have chosen will give my students several seating options to increase the effectiveness of their working area. The flexible seats are lightweight, so they can be moved around the classroom depending on where the students feel comfortable to work.
