Do biographies about Ceasar Chavez, Rosa Parks, Franklin Roosevelt, and Jim Henson, classic novels by Judy Blume and Kate DiCamillo, Tall Tales, and science topics like soil, rocks and water sound fun and exciting to read? These books will allow our classroom to dive into a new reading program. Students will get a chance to read authentic, rich and new reading materials. Their learning experience will go even further by having the books in their hands. Students will get to read, discuss, collaborate and write about these new books. New, exciting books spark interest and love of reading. My hope is that by reading these books, my students will be inspired to read more about topics of their interest. Additionally, these books support our science and social studies learning! Being able to see that these books are part of our classroom library makes the reading and learning real, not just something they read in a text book.
