My students will give up their lunch recess once a week to learn about the ocean and the things that live in it. We call this our Oceanography Club. We begin by learning about the ocean itself, as well as other bodies of water. Each week we will add to our knowledge. We learn about oceanic formations and the things that live in and around the ocean. We also learn about the water cycle and the life cycle as it relates to marine animals. Our last unit is about whales, and we learn about their physical characteristics and behaviors. Our culminating experience is an overnight trip to San Diego in which we go whale watching!
