I want to start the year off right and get my middle school students excited about reading. As a former elementary teacher, I know that many students hate to read because they think it's boring. It doesn't have to be this way! I want to engage my students in high-interest stories that are both interesting and can be used to help students to think critically. It is my goal to get to incorporate some novel studies into my lessons with 7th and 8th graders, but my classroom is lacking in book sets. We have a record number of middle school students enrolled this year and have had to scrounge for books and supplies to meet the needs of the larger classroom sizes. With these materials, not only do I envision creating excitement for reading, but I can see many ways to use these texts to help my students become better writers! I am in need of a class set of novels for my 8th graders and would like some audio books that would help the diverse group of learners I will teach.
