The books I have selected span various lexile levels and subject matter. They are relevant, interesting, and will help my students build confidence in their reading skills. Although we read texts for schoolwork, my students also have daily independent reading time where they can read a book of their choice. The goal of this is both to practice their skills and to open them up to reading for enjoyment. The ultimate goal of my school is to ensure that students are college-ready and prepared to become brilliant change-makers in their communities. Most of my students will be the first generation in their families to attend college. Helping my students improve their reading skills is an essential part of their educational journey. We currently do not have a school library, and as a new teacher, I am starting my classroom library from scratch!
