Science, Technology, Engineering and Art are not apart of our required curriculum at our school. I however, believe that no matter the label that is placed on each child due to their mental and/or physical disability, are still a child who wants to be creative and learn within their field of interests. A part of my career is helping my students determine what career interests them the most, and then help them learn these basic skills that will only help integrate them into society all that more easier. With that, I have students who are interested in Mechanics & Auto Body, Landscaping, Material Handling and Building. By incorporating themed concepts from STEAM based activities into our Reading, Writing, Math and Life Skills curriculum focus, I am able to provide my students an array of different ways to learn with the hands on approach that is instrumental in Special Education. Not only that, but the students earn "free time" throughout the academic day where these activities such as building LEGOs, walking to our gardening pots, and working on an engine are options to do. Thank you for all support!
