The materials I'm requesting will help my students make more meaningful connections between what they're learning and the diverse world around them. The books that I have chosen for this project highlight experiences of children and adults all over the world, from all different backgrounds and walks of life. My students will enrich their second grade experience by learning about children of different cultures, families escaping hardships and emigrating to America, the history of heroes who have sacrificed to better our country, and even everyday stories and adventures of children of varying ethnicities. Furthermore, by seeing themselves reflected in the literature we read, my students will be empowered to change the world by connecting their own life experiences with those across the world. The games I have chosen will also supplement my students' reading instruction by providing hands-on activities to enrich their learning. They will have so much fun playing these games, they might not even realize how much they are learning and growing!
