This year we will continue to implement Balanced Literacy in our classroom. Two of its components are Shared and Independent Reading. My classroom does not have any carpeted areas, and I would love to be able to set up a carpeted, comfortable, flexible seating area where my students can lay down and read their books. I often discuss with my students how books have the power to make you feel like you're traveling wherever these stories take place, and I want them to experience this love for reading. A carpeted reading area will also allow me to gather all my students during a shared/read aloud lesson where students can get comfortable and enjoy listening to exciting and adventurous stories. Having an enjoyable reading area will help me guide great readers into future leaders!
