These two chairs will be that start of making my classroom easier for students to collaborate with one another through flexible seating. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. A 2012 study from the University of Minnesota found that students participated 48 percent more in discussions in a classroom with collaborative group seating versus traditional lecture-style seating, and also improved their performance on standardized tests. These chairs will help create a classroom where students are able to have a choice and control their best learning environment. They will also gain more freedom to move and collaborate with their peers. So many of my students live in environments where they have little voice or choice in their daily lives.
