I often find that students are more likely to read and even take home books, if they are at their fingertips. In today's world it is all about convenience. This is why I am trying to create a classroom library for my students. A library in my classroom will also make it easier for me to suggest titles that might interest my students. In the past, I would suggest a title, the student would go to the library to look for it, and it was already checked out. This can deter students from reading. The book doesn't come available in the library, the student forgets about that book, and they lose interest. My students need to read. They need to have books readily available at their fingertips. We must improve students' reading fluency so that they can be better readers. Reading is a non-negotiable skill. They read in Math, Science, and History and without good reading fluency they will struggle in other subjects. The only way to increase their reading fluency is to get them reading.
